Germany Wonders after…

Germany has invited Pope Benedict XVI to address the German parliament called the Bundestag in Berlin during a state visit. The visit to Germany at the end of September will be his first state visit to Germany. Previous visits were pastoral.

Some members of the Bundestag plan to walk out or boycott the event because they say it is a violation of the separation of church and state in Germany.

Pope Benedict’s four-day visit to Germany will consist of stops in Berlin, Erfurt and Freiburg. In each city he will preside over large public masses. The Pope is also holding meeting with leaders of the Jewish, Muslim and Orthodox Christian faiths.

The motto of the papal visit is “wherever God is, there is the future.”
